an update! and Tim Gunn

I've been doing some shopping. Time for a haul!

Brown shorts and black nail polish from Forever 21. It was about time I got some black nail polish. I love how it's no longer attributed just to scene kids or goths. I remember my mom flipping out about me wearing it when I was thirteen.. :) The only thing about it though is that I'm reeeeally bad at painting my nails, and since it's so dark, it makes that fact pretty obvious... With lighter colors I can get away with it.

This cute white eyelet shirt from J. Crew. It was originally $80 but I got it for... wait for it... $13. SCORE. I always pass up J. Crew because I assume it's way out of my price range, but the sale stuff's really not!

And last, this beautiful sweater from Anthropologie. On sale for $30. Couldn't pass it up - I could just picture how wonderfully easy it will be to throw on for classes in the fall. And Ryan bought me the cutest little teddy bear in the whole freaking world! Her name is Shelly.

Also, a certain awesome man was here in Salt Lake on Saturday.

Tim Gunn! He gave a brief fashion talk at the Gateway. It was pretty sweet :) Definitely made me want to catch up on some Project Runway...

As for everything else, I just plan on working A LOT and getting things checked off my lists :] Plus my parents are coming up to help me paint my apartment this weekend. Can't wait to do a before/after post! Went and picked out colors today. It's gonna be cuuuuuuuuuuuute! I may even re-think moving out in summer 2012, we'll see ;)

i got soul but

shirt: Forever 21

There's really nothing for me to blog about. But I'm super-procrastinating my homework. LEAST appealing thing in the world right now. I can't decide if I should make some coffee and do my homework until 3 in the morning or just screw it all. Hm. I'm so interesting.

Currently obsessed with:
The Suburbs
April
Little Big Planet 2
Gilmore Girls (except that's always)
checking Mugglenet every hour in hopes of a DH2 trailer (to no avail)
Anthropologie housewares
the idea of cleaning my apartment

when there is nothing left to pretend

top and cardigan: Forever 21

I think I'll do a rambling blog post, because I haven't done one in a while and it's good for the soul and I'm buzzed.

This picture ^ obviously isn't from today because I went to work today. My usual longer-than-usual Saturday shift. And I have that familiar, gross after-work feeling on my skin and I should probably shower but I'm getting drunker by the second! So that's a no on that.

My boyfriend's in Vegas right now for his best friend's bachelor party! How strange is that. I thought it'd be a MUCH longer time before I start going to my friends' weddings and seeing them get married! But alas I live in Utah and it's inevitable. If I'd stayed living in Las Vegas it wouldn't even be brought up yet; I wouldn't even dare to start thinking of marriage myself. But alas I have. My co-worker and I were talking just today about how baby-hungry we are. And I'm 19! 19! Just keep your babies out of Zupas please. They're too adorable and they're ruining my life.

I've been looking at apartments lately and dreaming of my next place, (bigger, cleaner, newer, more efficient) but I think I just forget how much I love my apartment. All the little details that come directly from my soul and my life; it's my little sanctuary. I've dreamed of a place like this, where I can paint and make a mess and play my music and display my art and art that I love. I wouldn't trade it for the world. The one thing I would change is that I could have a little puppy. (You know, to hold off the baby feelings.) It would make a world of difference! But I guess that's just one more thing to look forward to.

I also must have this book:

Flipped through it at Anthropologie and it has given me a new perspective on diaries and altered books.

T-MINUS FIVE DAYS UNTIL APRIL! Let's make a list of every single amazing thing in April, shall we? Because I think it might just be the most beautiful month of my life.

April 1: Wye Oak concert @ Kilby Court
April 5: my sweet boyfriend's 24th birthday!
April 8: My Chemical Romance concert @ In The Venue
April 9: Creed and Brittany's wedding in St. George
April 11: Arcade Fire concert in Orem
April 12: Glee returns!
April 15: Deathly Hallows Part 1 on blu-ray!
April 17: drive to Parowan, chill out with family!
April 18: Blake's play in Parowan
(somewhere in here, my mom's coming up to help me paint my apartment)
April 28: U of U orientation! and last day of class at SLCC!
April 30: Tim Gunn @ the Gateway!

Is that beautiful or what?

Off to play some Little Big Planet 2.

--

In a endless night would you feel the fright
of the age that wasn't, could never be?
So we hold it close when we feel the most
like a love that we could not leave behind.
We turn the wheel to which way we feel
till our thoughts lift; I cannot find you there.
Don't forget the nights when it all felt right.
Are you not the same as you used to be,
used to be?

Victoria Legrand you are everything I long to be. Free and beautiful and ethereal and different and intriguing.

i'm the hero of this story

Don't need to be saved.

where do we go now but nowhere

While trying to decide on an outfit today, I realized I've gotten so bored with my wardrobe! Sure I've added a few nice, high-quality pieces, but I miss when I would get a few new things every week. So I decided to go out and buy a couple things! As luck would have it, I found a great PLAIN BLACK CARDIGAN from Forever 21 for less than $10. I've been searching for you for ages, pretty little cardigan.

Now I'm poor. Ah well.

mountains beyond mountains

jacket and necklace: Anthropologie; shirt: Forever 21;

YO! Only three more days of classes 'til spring break! Stoked! I'm not doing anything that exciting except maybe taking a trip to Parowan and my year-and-a-half anniversary with Ryan :) We're going to Forage and going to a ballet. Definitely expect a blog for that day! :)

I can feel the anticipation for April building up! Seeing my two favorite bands, Ryan's birthday, a wedding, the Deathly Hallows blu-ray, my mom coming up to help me paint my apartment, it's endless!

Speaking of my apartment, I rearranged the furniture this weekend. And every day I wake up and think "Why didn't I do this sooner?!" It's SO much more open, and I didn't even take out any furniture! It got me thinking about design more and more, and I've spent far too many hours in the last few days on Apartment Therapy. Here are some of my very favorites:

It's funny; no matter how much I say I love color, I guess I'm always drawn to more neutral rooms with subtle colors. I'm the same way with fashion too. I do love color, but colors that are found in the earth.

Also when it comes to design, I really like clean lines and the minimalist style but I'm also still extremely drawn to messy-ish bohemian sanctuaries. They seem almost opposites so it could be challenging to try to blend the two. I just want my apartment to be full of style, no matter what it is exactly. I want nobody to question that a design student lives there :)

So happy I could die.

I have one piece of advice for women everywhere: If you do not have a pair of jeans in your closet than you can rightly call "dream jeans," then please, GO OUT AND FIND THEM! Seriously. They have changed my life.

Last night we got frozen yogurt and talked about music all night. It was good times. Now my entireeee weekend is dedicated to studying for this math test. I'm so scared I'm not gonna pass that class :( and I'll have worked so hard for nothing... It's the one thing bringing me down these days; the uncertainty is kiling meeeeeee. And I was really sick this last week so I fell behind in Humanities and I just feel like crap about school :( Buttttttt only one week until spring break! Much needed.

make bright and clear your path

I don't believe in an interventionist God,
but I know, darling, that you do.
But if I did, I would kneel down and ask Him
not to intervene when it came to you.
Not to touch a hair on your head
to leave you as you are,
and if He felt He had to direct you,
then direct you into my arms.

Into my arms, O Lord.
Into my arms, O Lord.
Into my arms, O Lord.
Into my arms.

This song explains life way too perfectly.

Can you spot the differences in this picture from my last? Haha...

even the last of the blue-eyed babies know

This picture is from yesterday. I think it describes my life pretty well right now - Ryan bought me beautiful coral-colored roses; the bottle of Jack waiting so anxiously to be drank.

My hair is driving me CRAZY lately. I cut my bangs, thinking it'd keep them from being so annoying, but now they're even more annoying. My ends are fried, and I'm at that super awkward length between short and long. I feel like I look so much better when I just pull it back, and I hate it! :(

But anyway, ANOTHER amazing band is coming to Salt Lake! Iron & Wine - June 3rd! This is going to be such an amazing year for concerts.

April 8th - My Chemical Romance
April 11th - Arcade Fire
May 9th - Of Montreal
May 21st - Glee Live
June 3rd - Iron & Wine
and after that, the Twilight concert series! :) Hopefully we get some awesome acts this year, hopefully it's at the Gallivan, and hopefully I'll have my bike by that time to ride there!

spring wish list (:

I don't have much to say except that I wish I had money for these adorable items. So excited for spring/summer clothes shopping!! My style's changed so much since last summer, and I'm excited to try some new things.

Imagine these last three all together, paired with some skinny jeans, glasses, and toms shoes:

AHHHHHHHHH the cuteness! Too bad that's like a $300 outfit :[

the citrus drawing out the season's stains

jacket: Anthropologie; bracelet: Chamaymay!

Mother I can tell what you've been thinking,
staring at the stars on your ceiling,
thinking once there was a power that you were wielding.
And now I've hit the mark,
staring at the dark,
and I cannot help but ignore the people staring at my scars.

Let this be our little secret,
no one needs to know we're feeling
higher and higher and higher,
higher and higher and higher.

But I feel alive and I feel it in me,
up and up and keep on climbing
higher and higher and higher,
higher and higher and higher.

fall back in love eventually

Hi, my name's Jamie. I'm not a baby anymore and I'm ready to start something braaaaaaand new.

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

I feel shiny and new (plastic and cold.)

I'm walking through the city, like a drunk but not
With my slip showing a little, like a drunk but not
And I am one of your people, but the cars don't stop
And I am one of your people, but the cars don't stop

It's been a long time since before I've been touched
Now I'm getting touched all the time
And it's only a matter of whom
And it's only a matter of when

An addiction, two hands and feet
There's a meat market down the street
The boys and girls watch each other eat
When they really just wanna watch each other sleep

Oh Regina. Oh Joni. Oh Thom. You can hear something a million times but you never really know, until you know...

it's late, and i'm in love

It's quite late because I had a latte at about 9:00 so I'm not the least bit tired. So I'm blogging!

This last weekend I went to brunch for the first time! :) Sunday brunch at Pago with my cute cute boyfriend. (He was talking to the man at the table next to us about coffee in this picture.)

I just love when they give you a little creamer cup like this :D Really good coffee too.

I had croque monsieur, which didn't contribute much to my diet but man was it delicious :)

I found all the other people having brunch to be quite amusing. They were exactly the kind of people I'd picture to be "brunch people." Pretty classy, but pretty laid-back, and you can tell they're thoroughly enjoying their Sunday before another long week at the office. After we ate, we went to Ikea and I got a picture frame for my Beach House concert poster. I got home and it wasn't the right size. So I'll be returning it and probably just saving the $25 because I got a parking ticket today, and I'm just plain broke :(

Today was pretty productive, I guess. I was way behind in math so I caught up a little, then cleaned my house because I finally had the energy. It's still not quite as clean as it should be haha. BUT I stuck to my diet today, which was productive, but probably only because I wasn't hungry on account of all the coffee I drank today...

In other news, Kiss Each Other Clean by Iron & Wine was released today. (But I first listented to it Sunday.) And it's so damn lovely I can't stop listening. "Walking Far From Home" is my favorite song of the week... month... it's amazing. I rarely get this excited about new albums. I mean, it happens fairly often, but not with everything. Buy this album, kids. Now.

give my umbrella to the rain dogs

Today was such a lovely day! I had ramen noodles for breakfast om nom nom

(I'm getting really tired of my webcam pictures. If I had a macbook with PhotoBooth I'd be all game! Love PhotoBooth. But my windows web cam is horrid. Ugh. Anyway.)

Loved my outfit today. It's amazing what a perfect outfit can do :) I decided to try out the long-sleeve sweater/shirt over plaid collared shirt trend. Don't know if anyone else but me has noticed it. But it's so cute. Now I want more long-sleeve, fitted sweaters and plaid shirts :) Well, I always want plaid shirts. Also wore my cute little one-armed robot around my neck. Love him! Threw on some skinny jeans and my completely destroyed oxfords and what a cute outfit. Like a little schoolboy. That likes robots.

So I went to French, which was pretty challenging today. We're learning about the ridiculous French articles, and you know... just how ridiculous they are. I am so tired after that class, haha. In English, I'm a bit of a mumbler, but in French that is not allowed. You use every muscle in your lower face.

Then I finished up my humanities homework at Nostalgia, got some food, caught up on some MuggleCast, then back to school. We shared our 3-D sculptures in humanities, which was so fun. The assignment was to make a 3-D paper sculpture (or three) to describe the words "dream," "scheme," and "favorite." We had to get in groups and give each other adjectives describing our sculptures and the creators. The professor went around and gave adjectives too. She stopped by mine, looked very intrigued, and gave me "unique." I was thrilled :) She's such a smart lady, so I'm very flattered.

I just had some dinner while doing some French work, and when Ryan gets off work we're headin' to the gym. I can go tonight because I can sleep in tomorrow!

Awesome day.

What can you do

It's getting better. Hopefully school will be the last piece of the puzzle. Hopefully I'll meet some more sweet people there, and hopefully it will keep me busy enough that I stop spending money hah. I do not regret the purchase of this sweater though ^^^ Best purchase in a while!

Ryan took me on a kind of surprise date to The Pie tonight. Yay! And we're going to the Macaroni Grill tomorrow, yay! And I'm probably just going to relax Saturday and Sunday, and cherish the relaxation before life starts to get insanely...insane.

I've stayed up way too late this whole week. I should probably get some rest for our second day of grand opening at work tomorrow! I must say... I kick ass at my job. I wish I could kick ass at every aspect of my life too. I'm going to try my absolute hardest at school, and I really mean that. I can't believe I go back in four days! I'm so excited :)

Ohh, habits die hard when you got a sentimental heart.

Twenty. Ten.

I'm currently reading No Place Like Home: A Memoir in 39 Apartments by Brooke Berman. I'd never heard of this author before or the book, but I saw it online and it caught my eye. I've been wanting to read more memoirs, and this sounded so perfect for me. It's about a girl who moves out to New York when she's 18 and is constantly moving from apartment to apartment, trying to find her way. Since I, myself, have grown to be such a fan of re-locating, I thought I would relate to this girl. And sure enough, 37 pages in, I'm hooked.

It brought me to the realization that I lived in six different places in 2010. That's quite a few! So as a year-end kind of thing, I thought I'd write my own little mini memoir:

In January 2010, I was living in an off-campus apartment in St. George with two roommates whom I couldn't stand. The weather was bleak, and all I really remember about that time was being miserable. I stayed in my room most of the day or went to Starbucks to read and do homework. Anything to avoid my roommates. It wasn't long until I realized I couldn't live like that anymore. I had to get out.

It just so happened that Ryan and mine's friends Creed and Brittany were moving in and getting their own place together. It was a basement apartment with two bedrooms and no kitchen. They offered to have us take the second bedroom, and we said we'd think about it. But the first time we visited, they had a cat, and I left with my eyes swelled to the size of tennis balls. But once they got rid of the cat, I started thinking that maybe we should move in. Ryan and I wanted to live together, it would get me away from my roommates, and just maybe it would improve my all-around situation. And looking back, I'm not sure if it did, and I'm not sure if it didn't. All I can say is it was one hell of a few months. (Literally, that's all I can say, or I'll be in big trouble.)

Come April or so, Creed and Brittany wanted to move out, so Ryan and I had to as well. In a way we were ready to. At least I was. So I was left to return to my apartment with my old roommates, which I still had a contract to. Technically I had both apartments at the same time. (And that wouldn't turn out to be the only time that happened.) I endured another month with my roommates, went to my first appointment with a psychiatrist, got some pills, never took them, and finished my first year of college in one fell swoop. I was out of there literally hours after my last exam.

So where did I go now? My parents'. Back to Parowan. The plan was to move to Salt Lake City at the end of July. But Ryan and I took a trip up to SLC to look at apartments and found one we liked that had to be rented out at the end of June. So my stay with my parents was cut short, and I was thrilled. Moving to Salt Lake seemed like the grand adventure that every teenager dreams of. Whenever I visited downtown, I fell in love. That love affair is still going - every day. And that summer really was a dream. Looking back now, it could have been anyone's dream! I had an apartment with my boyfriend, I was unemployed, not in school, and basically I just explored the city for the entire summer. We attended the Twilight Concert Series every Thursday, I turned 19, and I discovered new loves of mine like the Food Network and thrift store shopping. I was constantly on the lookout for jobs, and constantly applied, but no luck came my way.

I started school in late August. It wasn't long until I quit. I don't want to explain the whole story, but I'm not a college dropout. I'm going back in two weeks. But ultimately, I found myself not in school and unemployed. So I pursued the job search more diligently, and after about a month, I did something right. I got a job at one of my favorite restaurants, and life felt almost whole. Something was missing.

My love affair with downtown SLC has mostly to do with the history, the old buildings, the city-ness of it all. The apartment I was in was built in the 1950s and it just kind of depressed me, to be honest. The stark white walls. The kitchen that attracted nats for absolutely no reason. I missed the romance and adventure of my relationship. I felt like it disappeared in thin air when we lived together. So I thought, "I want to make that feeling last just a little bit longer." I'll be honest: I will probably move back in with Ryan in a year or so. And we will probably get married in two or three years. But before then, I want to live on my own. I know it's not for everyone, but for me, personally, I believe that most people should live alone for at least a little while, once in their lives. I wanted to know what it was like, and honestly, I couldn't even tell you quite yet. But I'll get to that later.

I moved into a tiny, miniscule apartment in the Avenues. Ryan moved in with his old friend in the Avenues as well. We're seven blocks away from each other. It's nice. My apartment is basically one small room, plus an even smaller bedroom off to the side. The bathroom is too small for anyone larger than myself. I fit in it, but somebody a little bit larger would probably get annoyed very quickly. It literally goes: shower, sink, toilet. No space inbetween. I tell myself I love this place. I will make it my own. It will be adorable.

I began to do so, but my work schedule usually kept me away from my apartment most of the time anyway. I just slept there. But one day, the bulletin board in my building posted that a new unit had opened up and was available for rent: 4A. My curiosity took me up the stairs. Long story short, 4A kicked 2C's ass. And the rent was a mere $5 more a month. I paid my managers a visit and switched apartments.

And that brings me to my current residence. I feel more at home here than in 2C by far. Do I feel more at home here than I did living with Ryan? I'm not sure yet. He is my home. And one day we will have a home together. We talk about it all the time actually. But right now, this experience is something I need for myself. And so far, it's been positive. My neighbors here on the top floor are all actually really friendly. They knock on my door at 11 at night with shot glasses in hand, just to say hi and see if I want to chill. My work schedule prevents this unfortunately. And soon school will too. But balancing work and play is something I want to improve on anyway. I want to challenge myself, and I want to grow. And I promise you, I WILL make this apartment my very own :) I love it here. See my "Independent Living" blog for more on that.

This year was a growing experience for me, for sure. I can't wait to see what 2011 brings. As far as I know, I'm going to SLCC in the spring, working in the summer, and starting at the U in the fall! I'm even more excited to see what happens for me after I graduate at the U. And I can tell, that's going to get here quicker than I can imagine.

I didn't try taking very good pictures today, but I really liked my outfit :)

Probably no more posts for the next two days, so Merry Christmas! I had Christmas with Ryan tonight; we watched Harry Potter at Dolcetti Gelato, had dinner at Pago, went to the Zoo Lights which sucked, and opened presents. I love these kind of days with him :) Tomorrow I'm heading to Parowan to have family Christmas. Lots and lots and lots of love. <3

Good morning, night, wherever you are.

I highly highly recommend the documentary "America the Beautiful." It's on Instant Queue on Netflix. It's about body image in America with a big focus on the media. I don't know what provoked me to want to watch it, but I'm glad I did. I'm going to look at the world with new eyes. Far too many mornings I wake up and think "I want to look really pretty today!" and spend way too long in front of the mirror. I'm going to make an effort to wake up and say instead, "I want to do something beautiful today. Learn something beautiful. Let my inner beauty shine even brighter than my outer beauty." That's my new year's resolution.

That being said, let's be vain! C: I love this shirt, and the lighting in my bedroom.

I spent money today, surprise surprise! That should be a new year's resolution as well: frugality ftw. I'll try, but I'll really have to plan and control my impulses. But I just had some lunch, and ventured to Forever 21 to look for a nice top for either Christmas or my Christmas work party. I ended up getting two blue cotton tops - couldn't decide between the two. But they were so cheap. And season-versatile. Then I got Ryan another Christmas gift. I kept finding things for him that would be so perfect, but they were all so expensive I had to pass them up :(

We're having our Christmas sometime next week. We're going to have dinner at The Copper Onion and open presents and see the lights (and animals) at the zoo! Sounds like a perfect date night.

Hope you all have a beautiful night.

Everything goes according to planned.

Curls! Yay or nay? My hair is finally somewhat of a decent length, so I decided to try out the curls again. A year and a few months ago, my hair was curled like this all the time, but almost a foot longer. Can't wait to get there again! I like this though, it works.

Moving tomorrow! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new place that is two floors up. I thought I loved my place I'm in now, but I LOOOOOOOOVE my new place. Did I mention I love my new place? The bathroom is literally three times the size of mine now, the oven is literally twice as wide, the fridge is bigger, there's two radiators, the kitchen is seperate from the living room, there's an extra closet, the tiling in the kitchen is adorable, and it has a really pretty view of the mountains as it is on the top floor. Pictures soon.

Oh oh and I'm ridiculously excited for A Very Glee Christmas! Sadly I have to wait to watch it until Wednesday or Thursday after the move.

Haven't you heard that I'm the new cancer? Never looked better and you can't stand it.

20 Years of Snow

Dressed in all black and new jeans. Feels good!

On Friday night, Ryan took me to the Festival of Trees. So fun and festive! It kind of made me wish I had a Christmas tree haha, but it's okay.

Yesterday I went on a semi-successful Christmas shopping venture. I got my parents covered, and I ordered something for Ryan this morning on Amazon. I also ordered myself The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave. I sat in Barnes & Noble forever, thinking "Should I get this for Blake.. or myself?" Hahah. I thought about buying it, reading it, then giving it to him. But no. I want my own copy C: I don't have enough books! I'm getting Blake something just as awesome though.

I also watched The Runaways last night, which was quite good. I can't wait until I get my 37" TV though. It's almost hard to focus on the tiny, tiny screen I have haha.

And I don't know what I'm doing today. Maybe going to Target for some gift wrap... or Ikea for some Ikea food.

Hope you all had a good weekend! :)
